About Us

Cut to the Chase is an independent publication dedicated to thoughtful writing about theatre, live performance, and the people who make it happen. We believe that stage culture deserves the same quality of journalism and criticism as any other art form — and that audiences benefit from informed, passionate commentary.

Founded by Gillian Ward, a writer and theatregoer with over fifteen years of experience covering the performing arts across the UK and beyond, Cut to the Chase aims to bridge the gap between industry conversation and audience curiosity. We write for anyone who has ever left a theatre buzzing with questions, wanting to understand what they just experienced and why it mattered.

Our coverage spans the full breadth of live performance: from West End premieres to fringe debuts, from lighting design to community pantomime, from the economics of touring to the psychology of stage fright. We're interested in the art, the craft, and the culture that surrounds it.
